Emergencies

If at any time you find yourself in an emergency, or see another member in difficulty, please alert a staff member immediately.

If you are in the pool and the alarm sounds, please exit the pool immediately. The guards will direct you further.

If we need to evacuate the building the staff will announce it on the intercom. Please familiarize yourself with the exits.

Inclement Weather

Cancellations and closings due to weather conditions will be announced over radio stations Mix-95 (95.1 FM), WQCM (94.3 FM), WCHA (800 AM), WSRT (92.1 FM).

School Closings

The YMCA will conduct all programs as scheduled on days the school districts are not in session. Any Y programs involving bus transportation from school will not be held if schools are not in session or closing due to inclement weather.

Membership I.D. Cards

For your safety and security you are required to use your membership card to gain access to the facility at all times. If you forgot your card, the desk staff will verify your membership. If you have lost your card you must purchase a new card to gain access. The YMCA has the right to ask for identification.

Short Term memberships

Short term memberships are for anyone visiting, working in our area temporarily and college students home on break (3 months or less). This is not available to area residents. The fees are paid in full for 1, 2 or 3 months for the current monthly membership price. No association fee is charged. No ID card is given for 1 month memberships, 2 or 3 months will receive ID cards.

New Members Transferring From Other YMCA’s

Members from other YMCA’s can join our Y and the Association Fee is waived if their existing membership is current or has lapsed less than 30 days.

Membership Freezing

Medical limitations and Active Military Duty obligations are the only acceptable reasons for the YMCA to freeze a membership. Written documentation from the appropriate authorities is required to freeze a membership.

Membership & Program Refunds

If a person joins our YMCA for a year and moves from the area or decides not to come to classes, a refund will not be given. However, for a person moving from the area, most Y’s will accept a portion of their membership. We allow credit for 50% of the time remaining on their existing membership. Program refunds will not be given after the second class, except with a written statement by a physician for medical reasons. All refunds have a $5.00 service fee deducted from the refund or credit voucher.

NSF Check Policy / Declined Credit Card

There will be a $30.00 charge for all checks returned by the bank for non sufficient funds. A $30.00 fee will also be assessed for all automatic credit card drafts declined by Authorize.net for any reason. Any member who has two returned payments within a twelve month period will be required to conduct all future transactions in cash. 

YMCA Association Fee

The association fee is a one time fee new members pay upon enrollment to the Chambersburg YMCA. This fee is non-refundable. As long as the membership is kept current this fee will not be charged again. If a membership lapses for more than 60 days, the association fee must be paid again to rejoin the facility.

Free Month

Get a friend to join the Y and receive one free month extension of your membership.

Guest Fees

Guest must be accompanied by a Y member. Guests register at the desk and pay the appropriate fees. Local resident guests are allowed three visits only. If they join the Y within 30 days of their visits, the Y will credit their membership for the fees paid. Youth 14 and under must have adult supervision with them to bring a guest.

Weekend guest passes for local residents

Nov. 1st –March 31st are not available.

Active Military Personnel Usage

As a courtesy to active full-time military personnel, the Chambersburg YMCA will allow regular adult usage of the Y’s facility for active full-time military personnel, who are on TDY in our service area or home on leave.

Their usage of the Y’s facility will not exceed 14 consecutive days within a one year period and does not extend to their family members.

This policy does not apply to National Guard and U.S. Reservists, who are performing their annual 2-week training or weekend training duty.

AWAY Policy ( Always Welcome At the Y)

Your membership ID card will enable you to use YMCAs throughout the world. Participating Y’s have the right to limit use and privileges at their facility. Our policy is 6 free visits annually; additional visits are half price of the current guest fee.

YMCAs within a 50 mile radius of the Chambersburg YMCA have the following privileges:
(Carlisle, Waynesboro & Hagerstown)
Visiting YMCA members in good standing will have unlimited free visits to the above YMCAs. This will include all amenities offered to local general members, provided facilities / usage is available at the time of visit. Visiting members participating in fee based programs / leagues will be charged the non-member rate.

Pro Ration for Classes

No pro rating of classes prior to the start of class. We will pro-rate after a class has started if the participant has not been in the class prior to enrollment. The pro-rated fee will be for the missed classes only.

Class Make-up

Due to curriculum design and class size all make-up classes must be approved by the designated Y Director.

Pool Policies

* Recommended to shower before entering pool
* No one in pool until lifeguard is on duty
* Swimmers 6-8 years of age must be accompanied by an adult in the water or have passed Guppy level swim instruction. *Children 6 and under must have a parent with them at all times in the water.
* Glass containers and food are prohibited in locker rooms or pool areas.
* Use of pool equipment must be authorized by life-guard on duty.
* No hanging on lane lines
* No running or horseplay in pool or locker room
* No diving in shallow areas
* One person at a time on diving boards
* One bounce on diving board and dive straight off
* Pool closes during electrical storms. Reopens 15 minutes after last lightning.

Fitness Center/Weight Room

The Chambersburg YMCA offers one of the areas finest fitness facilities. Please read and support the listed policies to help maintain this quality facility.

Youth Usage of Fitness Center/Weight Room

Members must be 15 years of age with the appropriate membership to use the Fitness Center . Youth 12-14 yrs. of age listed on a family membership are permitted use of the fitness center with parent supervision. All youth must attend fitness orientations with a parent before using the facility and read the Y’s behavior contract. Hours for youth are posted in the fitness center.

Both parent and youth will be expected to comply with a Fitness Center behavior contract. Breach of this contract will result in the removal of the youth’s Fitness Center privileges until such time the Directors feel appropriate.

* Return all equipment to racks after each use.
* Wipe down all benches and equipment after use.
* Place used towels in receptacle. Health Center towels are for shower use only.
* Place all loose articles of clothing on the coat-rack.
* Food and drink (except water bottles) prohibited.
* Doors must be kept closed at all times.
* Profane or foul language prohibited
* Appropriate attire required. Sandals, jeans and bare chest prohibited. No bare feet.
* Do not admit individuals without membership cards into the Fitness Center .

The above policies also apply to all adults using the fitness center. All members are advised to schedule at least one appointment for orientation with staff.

Appropriate Dress and Behavior

The YMCA is committed to character development and maintaining an atmosphere conducive to children and families. All members are expected to dress and behave appropriately. Swimwear is required for pool access.

The Chambersburg YMCA is a family facility. Inappropriate, rude, or disruptive behavior or inappropriate dress will not be tolerated and will result in suspension or revocation of membership privileges without refund. Parents are responsible for their children’s behavior and members for their guest’s behavior.

Parents will be notified of any behavior problems before the child is suspended or expelled from a YMCA program or the YMCA. Some exceptions may apply.

Youth Facility Usage Policy

To provide a safe and protective environment for all youth and teens using the facility the following policies are in place:

* Members 6 to 14 years of age must be in one of the following areas: lobby, youth/teen centers, youth fitness center, gym or pools. Availability of some areas depend on schedule of activities.
* Members will receive one verbal warning, which will be documented with a note to the parents or guardian. A second offense will result in 30 days suspension and will require a readmission letter to the YMCA. A third offense will result in loss of membership and program privileges.0

Youth Fitness Center Room Guidelines

To provide a safe and protective environment for all youth using the Youth Fitness Center the following guidelines are in place:

Youth enrolled in kindergarten through 6th grade may use the Youth Fitness Center.

Participants must wear appropriate clothing for exercise.  No bare feet or backless shoes of any kind are permitted. Water bottles only are allowed in the facility.  Staff will not be responsible for lost or missing personal items. Please do not bring electronics or money into the facility. Keep in mind that proper and safe use of the equipment is required at all times. The YMCA expects Youth Fitness Center participants to use respectful and responsible behavior at all times. Youth may be asked to leave and refused entry if they are disruptive and disrespectful to other youth or staff.

The climbing wall rules must be followed for everyone’s safety.  Youth who refuse to comply will be denied entry to the room. Absolutely no one may sit or climb over the climbing wall at any time.

Due to limited space, no gymnastics is permitted in the room.  The mats must stay by the climbing wall at all times. Intentional misuse, abuse and/or damage to the equipment or facility will not be tolerated. Youth may have membership privileges removed as a result. Intentional damage to the equipment or facility will result in an automatic membership termination, with no refund.
