Rock Steady Boxing is a health and wellness program designed for people with Parkinson’s, a neurological condition affecting balance, strength, walking, and especially confidence. It’s based on non-contact boxing, which has proven very effective in improving all the symptoms people experience with this disease. The Parkinson’s Foundation has been recognized Rock Steady Boxing as one of three Accredited Exercise Education programs. It has grown into a thriving international nonprofit organization with more than 840 affiliates. Rock Steady Boxing Coach responsibilities:

  • Comply with the Rock Steady Boxings Affiliates established guidelines.
  • Design classes that incorporate the current “Plan of the Week”, the space and equipment available and the individual levels of each boxer.
  • Determine the limitations and abilities of each boxer by evaluating both their Parkinson symptoms and their overall health and fitness status.
  • Offer encouragement, motivation, discipline and hope

Prerequisites for applying to be Rock Steady Boxing Coach:

  • The trainee must hold ONE of the following:
    • a medical professional license OR
    • an NCCA-certified fitness professional or equivalent certification OR
    • a degree in an exercise science-related field 
  • Training:  10-hour Rock Steady Boxing online training 
    • Additional Recertification every 2 years
  • Available to work 4-5 hours per week
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30PM - 4:45PM 
    • Other class times may be available
  • Ability to have FUN!
  • No previous boxing experience necessary

The Y is hiring part-time staff for its Before & After School program for the 2023 - 2024 school year. The staff supervises youth, as well as helps with homework, organizes gym games and plans activities for K-5 children. Applicants preferably have experience with children, but those working on degrees in education are encouraged to apply!

The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Applicants can work all shifts or whichever shifts correspond with their schedules.

The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking part-time Before and After School Site Directors to work with elementary aged youth. Site Directors develop, manage, supervise, and direct the operations of a School Age Child Care location. This program provides homework assistance, recreation, arts and crafts, and other engaging activities while maintaining a safe environment for youth. Site Directors focus on the development of every child while promoting and modeling the values of the YMCA. Great opportunity for those interested in education, human services, and youth development.

Applicants must have experience supervising children. Those with degrees in education or related fields are encouraged to apply!

Program hours are typically Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some planning time is included in this position.

Qualifications: Must hold a Bachelor's Degree in a human services or education field. Must obtain necessary clearances, Pediatric First Aid and CPR, current physical exam with TB test, and 2 written references. Minimum of two years of experience working with children required.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Facility Manager, the Maintenance Custodian is responsible to help maintain the YMCA’s facilities and grounds in a clean, safe and functioning manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Repair and maintain building needs as directed
  • Monitor and service swimming pool and whirlpool equipment as directed
  • Maintain gym floor cleanliness, maintenance, preventive and repairs
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming
  • Maintain, clean trash receptacles.  Gather and empty all trash and recyclables
  • Service, clean, disinfect and supply restrooms and locker rooms
  • Maintain clear safe sidewalks and entrances to facility.  To include clearing snow, ice, leaves and gravel. Spread snow melting chemicals when necessary
  • Launder and fold towels
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed
  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
  • May set up for meetings, events and rentals
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS and KNOW HOW:

  • High Energy with attention to detail
  • 1 year or more of related experience preferred
  • Must be able to repair building equipment and/or determine appropriate actions to be taken
  • Must be able to use hand and power tools for making general repairs
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures and other documents
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
  • Be able to positively interact with members, guests and fellow staff

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties
  • Ability to lift at least 30 pounds
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces; twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back

 

The Y is seeking qualified lifeguards to work various shifts. Lifeguards should have current certifications plus CPR for the professional rescuer certifications.

Full and Part Time Positions Available

The Chambersburg YMCA ARK Child Development Center is seeking qualified lead teacher applicants.  Part-time and substitute positions are also available.  A high school diploma and experience working with children or education in child development, early education, or a related field are required.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish effective relationships with parents and children, maintain high teaching standards, and work to create a positive, nurturing environment.  Teachers work together to create and maintain a stimulating educational environment for children ages 3 to 5 while helping them learn to love learning!  Excellent leadership, creativity, and communication skills are required.  Teachers utilize classroom technology and incorporate Christian values into the curriculum daily.  The ARK’s ideal preschool teacher is loving, optimistic, excited, structured, curious, and ready for anything.

Position Overview: The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is seeking dedicated, caring, and professional bus drivers to transport youth for various programs including Before and After School, gym and aquatic programs, and field trips. Drivers are responsible for safely transporting the children in accordance with PA Department of Motor Vehicle Regulations.
 
Qualifications:
• High school diploma is required.
• Experience working with children and youth is preferred.
• Current CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
 
Successful candidates must obtain 3 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and FBI), two written references, and a current physical with TB test.
