AQUATIC DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Senior Program Director and Executive Director, in cooperation with the Membership and Program Services Committee, and consistent with the Mission of the YMCA, the Aquatic Director will be primarily responsible for managing the operations of the Chambersburg Y’s Aquatic Department in accordance with the goals, purposes and policies of this Association.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. College degree in relevant field preferred.
  2. Two years of related experience preferred.
  3. Current Lifeguard, CPR, AED, First Aid and BBP Certifications
  4. Certified Pool Operator preferred
  5. Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as proficient in Microsoft Office software
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  8. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Promotes, directs, instructs, and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives and budget guidelines.
  2. Establishes new program activities and expands program opportunities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  3. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Conducts training as needed and ensures staff records are current and complete.
  4. Develops and monitors the departmental budget to meet fiscal objectives. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  5. Responsible for implementation of all components of the Aquatic Safety Plan. Evaluates and recommends updates to ensure the effectiveness of the Aquatic Safety Plan on a regular basis.
  6. Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  7. Creates and assists with all aspects of aquatic promotional and marketing strategies
  8. Monitors and maintains records of daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and ensures proper maintenance of the pools.
  9. Keeps the pool area in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
  10. Conducts regularly scheduled aquatic meetings for the instructional and lifeguarding staff.
  11. Responsible for purchasing and maintaining all aquatic equipment.
  12. Ensures proper registration and payment of all aquatic fees.
  13. Submits monthly reports for the Board of Directors meetings to the Director of Development and Administrative Services by the third business day of each month. These reports will provide pertinent Aquatic program information and Aquatic program enrollment figures.
  14. Confers regularly with the Senior Program Director and Full-Time Aquatics Department Personnel regarding the aquatic programs and operations.
  15. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned

EFFECT ON END RESULTS

  1. The swimming pool will be always kept clean and safe.
  2. An individual, systematic, documented, progressive swimming instructional program will be held for Pre-School, Youth, Young Adult, Adult and Special Needs Population groups. These students will systematically achieve higher aquatic skills through the implementation of YMCA Aquatics instruction.
  3. All swim instruction classes, and recreation swim periods will be properly staffed with currently certified individuals.

Youth Department

The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking energetic, reliable Camp Counselors to provide a safe and memorable experience for the children of our community. The ideal Camp Counselor will be flexible, patient, a good role model, and have a passion for working with and empowering children.

Some Camp Counselor responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the supervision, safety and security of the children at all times.
  • Plan for and facilitate activities for children.
  • Supervise and engage on field trips and during all activities to ensure the experience is safe and enjoyable.
  • Mediate any conflicts between campers, encouraging positive, healthy relationships and interactions.
  • Communicate with parents regarding activities and behaviors.

Some Camp Counselor skills include:

  • Experience working with children preferred.
  • Ability to relate well to individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to engage in physical activity (i.e. hiking, walking, and generally being mobile with the children).

Ark Child Development Center Full-Time Lead Preschool Teacher

The Chambersburg YMCA ARK Child Development Center is seeking qualified lead teacher applicants.  Part-time and substitute positions are also available.  A high school diploma and experience working with children or education in child development, early education, or a related field are required.
 
The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish effective relationships with parents and children, maintain high teaching standards, and work to create a positive, nurturing environment.  Teachers work together to create and maintain a stimulating educational environment for children ages 3 to 5 while helping them learn to love learning!  Excellent leadership, creativity, and communication skills are required.  Teachers utilize classroom technology and incorporate Christian values into the curriculum daily.  The ARK’s ideal preschool teacher is loving, optimistic, excited, structured, curious, and ready for anything.

Counselor For Remote Learning Program

The Y is hiring part-time staff for our Remote Learning Program for the 2020 - 2021 school year. The staff supervises youth, as well as helps with logging them into their online classes, assisting with classwork, and planning other activities for children in Kindergarten through Middle School. Applicants preferably have experience with children, but those working on degrees in education or a human services field are encouraged to apply!
 
The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Applicants can work a variety of shifts to correspond with their schedules.

Bus Driver

Position Overview: The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is seeking dedicated, caring, and professional bus drivers to transport youth for various programs including Before and After School, gym and aquatic programs, and field trips. Drivers are responsible for safely transporting the children in accordance with PA Department of Motor Vehicle Regulations.
 
Qualifications:
• High school diploma is required.
• Experience working with children and youth is preferred.
• Current CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
 
Successful candidates must obtain 3 clearances (Child Abuse, Criminal Background, and FBI), two written references, and a current physical with TB test.

Welcome Center Representative

The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is seeking an energetic part-time Welcome Center Representative.  This position requires you to be able to work various hours Monday through Sunday.


Position Summary:

The Welcome Center Representative will represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA.  The Representative will provide membership information and enroll new members, provide program registration and information, direct incoming phone calls, regulate lobby activity, and provide excellent member service by exceeding member’s expectations.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Customer service and telephone communication skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
  • Able to relate well with staff and the public

Fitness Center Staff

The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking qualified fitness professionals to provide members, as well as guests with a positive and enjoyable workout experience, on a part-time basis.  The Fitness Center Staff position will display outstanding customer service, be friendly, helpful and attentive to those working out in the fitness center areas.  

Under the direction of the Fitness Center Director, the Fitness Center Staff’s responsibilities include develop member relationships, conduct fitness orientations, maintain the cleanliness of the fitness area and the equipment, and assist in preventative maintenance of equipment.  The incumbent accepts, demonstrates and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Youth Fitness Trainer

The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking qualified fitness professionals to teach high quality fitness classes for youth on a part-time basis.
The Youth Fitness Instructor is the primary leader of a youth fitness class under the general guidance of the Director of Healthy Living and instructs all fitness classes within the guidelines of the YMCA to maintain the quality of programs.

Required Skills:

  • Understand the basic components of a safe and effective fitness class and have a comprehensive understanding of current health and fitness standards and principles pertaining to youth
  • Take pride in professionalism by reporting on-time with a positive attitude and a passion to motivate youth in health and wellness programs.
  • Enthusiastic about fitness and wellness and enjoys creating and delivering new, fresh, and innovative classes.
  • Provides, promotes and maintains safe classes and programs for all participants.
  • Responsible for set-up and take-down of all equipment
  • Provides support with planning of classes.
  • Practical demo with Director of Healthy Living
  • Current nationally accredited fitness certification (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, NETA) is a plus
  • Current CPR/AED certification is a plus
  • Must have good speaking ability and display an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to participants

Personal Trainer

The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is looking for motivated personal trainers who enjoy helping everyday people achieve their health and fitness goals. The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is looking for a Spin Instructor who can teach mornings and/or afternoons. The position calls for someone who is engaging, upbeat, cheerful and loves fitness.
